Friday 20th May - RE - In RE today we learnt that the Hindu God Brahman comes in many forms. Research and produce a fact file or information leaflet featuring three Hindu gods and/or goddesses (forms of Brahman).  Include illustrations.  You may use ICT but NO copying and pasting text!  Due in Monday 

Friday 13th May - Literacy - In literacy and PSCHE today, we discussed your four years at Busbridge and your hopes and fears as you are about to start a new stage of your school life.  Your task is to write a piece of up to 150 words focussing on one or more of the following areas: your memories of school (not including any names of people and places); your hopes and fears for the future - in relation to changing schools, the world or the rest of your life; your expectations and doubts; looking forward from your experiences of the last 4 years; and the contribution you can make to the world, society, your friends and families.  Due in Monday

Tuesday 29 March- Literacy- Today you began to plan your persuasive letter to the council arguing either to save Wellands orchard or to build a housing estate on it. Your homework is to continue to plan your letter including at least 3 main points, exaggeration, repetition and rhetorical questions- Due in Wednesday

Monday 28 March - Topic - Complete the planning you started in class today, to enable you to write a non-chronological report on the Rossetta Stone, on Thursday Bring in on Wednesday

Friday 25 March - Science - Produce a poster illustrating  5 or so items around the home that use electricity and stating the type of power source their electricity comes from (eg mains, battery, solar, wind up, etc).  Ensure you include a variety of power sources.  Your poster may be drawn or produced using ICT Due in Monday

Thursday 24 March - Literacy - Tomorrow in literacy you will be writing your newspaper article about the air strikes that have been happening in Libya aimed at creating a no-fly zone over the country. Ensure that you have fully planned for this piece of work in your planning book.  Please make sure it is structured as we discussed in class (opening para, background and details, quotes from the press conference, next steps).  Also try to watch tonght's news so we can discussed how events have progressed since we looked at the story on Monday  Big Write tomorrow -make sure you bring back your planning book!

Tuesday 22 March - Topic - During the course of the next week, we will be writing a non-chronological report about the Rosetta Stone (on 7th April we will see it in the British Museum!)  Your homework is to research this topic: what is the Rosetta Stone? why is it so significant?  where was it found? when? by whom? who broke its code? what does it tell us?  You may either word process or write out your research - we will then compile it into a n-c report in class.  Due in Friday

Tuesday 1 March- Literacy- We have been learning about explanation texts in literacy. Research a topic/subject that you would like to write an explanation text on in our literacy lesson.

Topic ideas are:How you can change the brightness of a bulb; how bodies were mummified in Ancient Egypt; how pyramids were built; how rivers are used by humans; how rivers flood; how to grow mould on bread; how rivers change from their source; how World War 2 started; how World War 2 affected our diets; how the Rosetta stone was deciphered. Due in Wednesday

Thursday 3 February - Science - Set up the "A lot of rot" investigation as outlined in the sheet handed out this afternoon.  Continue to observe the grass/leaves for three (not two) weeks, record your observations each week, and hand the completed sheet in on Monday 28 February (after half term).  Extra housepoints will be available for those who record additional observations, such as digital photos.  Shpould you have any queries about this investigation, please talk to me or email me!  Monday 25 January - Literacy - This week in literacy we are coninuing to revise non-chronological reports (NCR).  Tomorrow you will be planning a NCR on one aspect of Keeping Healthy, and on Wednesday you will be writing your report.  Your homework tonight is to research the aspect of Keeping Healthy you will be writing about.  Ideas include: exercise, healthy eating, bad habbits for health (smoking, alcohol, drugs, etc) and how the heart works (your report should be on just one of these areas!). Please bring in notes tomorrow

Friday 21 January- Topic- Finish of the archaeology sheet: What you are looking for, how you will get to Egypt, what tools you will need and finish labelling the map Due in Monday

Thursday 20 January- Science- Design a poster containing information about how to keep food fresh and how to prevent the spread of food related germs e.g. seperate chopping baords for meat and vegetables, keep food in the fridge etc. Due in Monday

Monday 17 January - Literacy - This week in literacy we are revising non-chronological reports (NCR).  Tomorrow you will be planning a NCR on one aspect of Ancient Egypt, and on Wednesday you will be writing your report.  Your homework tonight is to research the aspect of Ancient Egypt you will be writing about.  Ideas include: Ancient Egyptian gods, beliefs in the afterlife, Tutankhamun, embalming and mummies, clothes and jewellery, farming,the importance of the River Nile, where did Ancient Egyptians live? and pyramids. If possible, please bring notes in Tuesday

Friday 14 January- Topic- Produce a holiday poster advertising a holiday to Egypt. What could you see ? Do? Due in Monday

Thursday 13 January- RE- Research a Christian-based charity and produce a fact sheet about it. Information you may wish to include:Who the charity helps, the aims of the charity, how it helps, which countries it operates in, when it was established and by whom, annual income per annum. Tuesday 11 January- Literacy - This week we are learning how to write formal letters.  You are hoping to go to Rodwater Comprehensive School next year.  The headteacher, Miss Strict, has asked all potential pupils to write her a formal letter telling her about themselves, highlighting their achievements in and outside of  Busbridge Junior School during the past 3 or 4 years, and outlining their reasons for wanting to attend Rodwater School. Your homework tonight is to write such a letter. Remember to use the features of formal letters that we have discussed in class and structure it into three distinct paragraphs covering the information requested by Miss Strict.  Letters may be hand written or word processed.  Due in Thursday

Thursday 6 January - Science - Today we conducted an experiment looking at how the distance of an object from a light source affected the size of its shadow.  Homework tonight is to draw a line graph of your results on the square paper provided.  One axis should show the distance of the object from the light source and the other should show the size of the shadow.  Graphs should cover as much of the paper as possible (think about your scales) and axes should be labelled.  Ensure it is TIDY AND NEAT!  Due in Monday

Friday 10 December- Topic- To complete advantages and disadvantages of living near a river.

Disadvantages: Danger of drowning, flooding, dangerous animals (crocodiles etc), Mosquitos, difficulty in land transport (need bridges, ferries) Due in Tuesday 

Thursday 9 and Friday 10 December - RE - Plan and create a report on how Christmas is celebrated in other parts of the world.  Compare the differences between the way we celebrate Christmas and the way in which other countries celebrate it.  Due in Monday

Wednesday 17th November- Numeracy- Complete division problems including remainder and convert to fraction if possible. Spend around 30-40 minutes, don't worry if you do not finish all the questions. Due in on Friday

Tuesday 16 November - Literacy-  Create a play script of an every day morning scene at school. The scene needs to start from lining up outside and finish with us going to assembly!  Limit your characters to around five (don't include everyone being registered one by one!).  Play scripts should include the features that we have been looking at this week (for example, cast list, stage directions, colons after the name of character about to talk, etc.)  Due in Thursday

Tuesday 9 November - Literacy - Later this week, we will be writing our autobiographies in class!  As you probably won't remember much from the first 3 or 4 years of your life, your homework is to interview a person who was around (parent, older brother/sister, aunt, etc) and take notes.  The kind of questions you may want to ask are : where was I born? how long was the labour? what did I look like as a baby? what was I like as a baby?  how old was I when I first started walking / talking? what was I like as a toddler? how did my appearance change? are there any funny stories about me at this point of my life? did I go to nursery? how much did I enjoy it? what were my favourite toys? Make up some more quesions of your own!  Don't forget to get a couple of quotes and ask about feelings. Please note you need only write about aspects of your life you feel comfortable writing about. Your autobiography will be marked looking at the features of biography writing you have used, not the content.  Bring your notes in on Thursday (at the latest) for use in that morning's lesson.

Friday 22 October - Games -  In your group of 3 to 5, create a game that develops a specific tennis skill.  Consider how it could be made harder and easier, and whether a points system can be added to it.  You should hand in a written description of your game, with diagrams, on Wednesday.  Your team will then introduce the game to the class on Friday.

Thursday 21st October - Science - Design a safety poster for educational purposes warning people of the dangers of fire. Include safety measures you could take to prevent harm.  Due in 2nd November

Tuesday 19 October - Topic - Write a letter to the staff and volunteers at Dapdune Wharf to thank them for their help and support during our trip on Friday. Highlight what you most enjoyed and what you learnt.  You may decorate or include a picture in your letter.  Due in Thursday

 Friday  8 October - Topic - Due in Monday You are a city dwelling child during WW2, and were evcuated to the countryside less than a week ago.  Write the first letter home to your family telling them what has happened since you waved them goodbye and how you are feeling about it all.  Head the letter with a fictitious address in the country.  This website may help you if you need to know more about evacuees. Subjects you could write about include:the jouney, being chosen by host family, comparison of town to countryside - seen anything new? where I'm staying, who I'm staying with - friendly, children, pets, with my friend? foo, new school, new interests/hobbies, jobs/tasks, freind I've already made, missing you, how are the rest of the family?

Friday 1 October - Topic WW2 - Find out what 'the phoney war' was from either the internet or from books.  Write a short paragraph about it to put in your topic book and be ready to talk about what you know in class.  Due in Monday 

Thursday 30 September -Science - Complete the saturation sheet. At home, conduct the saturation experiment we discussed in class.  This is to find out how much sugar an amount of water can ‘hold’ before it becomes saturated, and whether the temperature of the water makes any difference. - Due in Monday  

Wednesday 29 September -Numeracy - Complete the missing gaps worksheet using inverse operations to work out the answers - Due in Friday  

 Tuesday 28 September - Literacy - Today you wrote a book review in literacy. Your homework is to research information about your author to include in your review - Due in Wednesday

Thursday 23 September - Science - Conduct the experiment we discussed in class today and briefly write up your results.  The experiment is to find out whether the temperature of water makes a difference to the rate at which sugar dissolves.  Remember that there should be only one variable (that is, the temperature of the water) and that other factors should remain constant (eg amount of sugar and water used each time, rate of stirring, etc.) - the sheet you completed in class will assist you.  Due in Monday

Friday 17th September - Topic - In history this week, we have been looking at the events during the 1930's leading up to WW2.  Using the notes you made during the lesson, the internet article you have taken home and any other research you may wish to undertake, either: 1. write a newspaper report about the Great Depression, focussing on the Jarrow Crusade or 2. Imagine you are a man on the Jarrow Crusade and write a diary entry about your experiences (explain why you are marching, how you feel about not having a job, your reaction to the outcome of the march, etc.). Due in Monday

Thursday 16th September - Topic/Literacy - imagine you are living in London and you have just heard the air raid siren go off.  You don't have enough time to get to an air raid shelter before the bombs start to fall, so you hide under the dining room table.  Write a paragraph (around six sentences) to describe how you feel and what you see, hear, smell, touch, and taste.  Try to use features such as similes and personification to describe your feelings.  Please handwrite this on a piece of unlined paper using a line guide or lined paper if you do not have a line guide. Due in Monday
